Frequently Asked Questions

What protocols do you have in place due to COVID-19?

The therapist will be wearing a mask, and patients/clients and their parents will be required to wear a mask as well. Once the visit begins the patient/client will be able to remove the mask for the remainder of the visit. Furthermore, I will hand-sanitize and put on a new pair of gloves before a visit begins and all equipment is sanitized before and after use.

Why do I need physical therapy?

If you are injured then you should consider that major injuries or just nagging ones can become chronic if they are not treated properly. With chronic injuries and chronic pain, participation in the activities you love can be severely impacted. The goal at Unlimited Performance is to not only get you back to sport but to provide treatment that helps prevent injuries in the future.

If you are not injured but are simply unable to perform skills the way you want and need to, then a Physical Therapist's skill set includes exactly what you need. A skill development evaluation will allow us to identify what is holding you back, and we will work with you to overcome that limitation in the subsequent visits.

Do you only treat cheerleaders?

Although extensive experience with the sport of cheerleading allows us to offer a unique and targeted treatment experience for cheer athletes, we are available to treat anybody who finds value in direct 1-on-1 treatment. Any athlete, post-surgical patient or weekend warrior tired of being limited from doing what they love can find what they need at Unlimited Performance.

Do you take insurance?

No, we do not take insurance. However, we can provide you with an itemized bill which you can then use to try to request reimbursement from your insurance provider.

Insurance based clinicians do not always get to provide the care and treatment that they think is best for the patient, but rather they are restricted to the treatments that the insurance company decides to reimburse. Physical Therapists are often unable to showcase their full range of expertise due to the time and money restraints imposed by continuous cuts in insurance reimbursement rates. By cutting out the insurance provider, we are given the freedom to use every tool at our disposal to help you achieve your goals, and because we do not have to see multiple patients at a time, you have the therapist's full attention every session. As previous PT patients ourselves, we understand the frustration of awkwardly waiting for the next exercise while the PT works with another patient.

Do I need a referral for physical therapy?

New Jersey law allows patients in New Jersey to receive outpatient physical therapy treatment from a licensed physical therapist  without a referral from a licensed health care professional for at least 30 days. If there is more to gain beyond the initial 30 days, we would speak to your physician, and you would simply need to request a referral for physical therapy in order for us to continue working toward your goals.

How many visits will I need?

That all depends on why you're coming to PT and what your ultimate goals are. Typically, physicians write a script for 2-3 visits a week for 4-6 weeks.  At Unlimited Performance, we prioritize patient education and development of a strong home exercise program, so we can progress you toward your goals while you avoid having to make unnecessary appointments. After your initial evaluation, we will offer a prognosis and we will discuss a therapy schedule that works for you.

What types of treatment will I receive?

Treatment programs are customized to the needs of the patient. Some examples of these treatments include:

  • Manual Therapy: Joint mobilizations and manipulations, manual and instrument assisted soft tissue massage, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and KT taping.
  • Therapeutic Activities: This is where cheer and therapy meet. Video analysis of your performance at practice can be used to develop exercises that replicate the movements of the specific skill your'e working on.
  • Neuromuscular Re-education: Your muscles may be strong enough, but they still need to be able to coordinate their movements so that they can accomplish what you ask them to do.
  • Therapeutic exercise: Stretching and strengthening exercises that target the muscles that are holding you back from your performance potential.
  • Modalities: Adjuncts to your recovery/training such as E-stim and Intelli-Flo ice and compression therapy.
